Technical Instructor III (RN specialization)

Summary

Provide instructor/subject matter expert (SME) services at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in support of the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE)/Department of Operational Medicine (DoOM).

Critical Care Flight Paramedic course consists of 104 hours of classroom didactics in critical care medicine including pharmacology, pathophysiology and key elements of enroute critical care. The course also includes 176 hours of practical experience including hospital intensive care units, ground ambulance, and air ambulance observation in the local area of operations. The final 40 hours is spent on operationalization to include certification testing and Army-specific equipment orientation.

Didactic time is during standard Plan of Instruction (POI) time of 0700-1700. Clinical rotation component of the course will occur during days and nights typically (8-12-hour shifts). Duration of clinical rotations are 4 weeks, including weekends.

Services for this contract shall be provided at JBSA Fort Sam Houston/MEDCoE/Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) government facilities.

Job Description

Instructional Delivery Tasks:

  • Prepare for and deliver standardized course materials
  • Perform lead role in the implementation of training
  • Presents specific courseware modules using established guidelines
  • Administer, correct and review quizzes, tests, final exams, practical exams, etc.
  • Report on student discipline problems
  • Brief students on the end-of-course and long-term evaluation processes
  • Conduct student liaisons during ICU clinical rotations
  • Instruct, during didactic time of clinical rotations
  • Execute approved course delivery plans
  • Conduct after action reviews and evaluations; implements recommendations

Non-Podium Instructional Development Tasks:

  • When not actually performing classroom instruction, such time would be used in support of course delivery to prepare and complete course-related educational developmental tasks.
  • Provide professional/subject matter expertise to the instructional delivery, design, development, and execution of training programs.
  • Recommend revisions and updates to existing training materials.
  • Research professional literature, doctrine, regulations, policies, and training materials; and collaborate with civilian and military experts on training material revisions and updates.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience required of direct patient care in a critical care setting required. Examples include direct patient care on an Intensive Care Unit, dedicated position providing direct patient care in the Trauma/Resuscitation section of a Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department
  • MSN (or) DNP (or) PhD, (or) a BSN with a master’s degree in a related field, preferred
  • Must have an active and current nursing certification in Texas. Certification must be maintained while employed in this position
  • Maintain nursing licensure in Texas
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Completion of the current foundational CAC-T, ATSC provided Instructor / facilitator course or CAC-T, ATSC-approved equivalent course preferred
  • Common of the Faculty Development - Developer Course, 7B-SI7Q/570-SQI2 preferred
  • Knowledgeable in critical care transport to include flight and transport protocols
  • Knowledgeable in pharmacology to include critical care medications, intravenous medication titration, equipment utilized to administer medication, medication interactions, contraindications, and reversal procedures.

Knowledgeable in hemodynamics and effects of critical care diagnoses on body system, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.

Salary: $85,000 - $100,000
